There are many types of Latin ensembles, from 12 to 20 piece orquestas, guitar and vocal based trios, and more but Sonora style Latin bands have a unique sound of their own because the horn section consists of only trumpets. Many bands have used this type of instrumentation such as Sonora Matancera, Sonora Dinamita, Sonora Poncena, Sonora Santanera and many more. La Sonora Chicago aims to pay tribute to these legendary bands with a modern twist.
